Multifocal consultation

Start your journey glasses free!

A multifocal lens consultation couldn’t be easier. Our friendly team will guide you through eye assessments lasting around one hour. Once complete, your specialist will advise you on the most suitable multifocal lens model and power for your eyes. During these tests we’ll dilate your pupils to capture detailed scans of the cornea/retina and your exact prescription.

Before your appointment, please avoid contact lenses for two weeks so your eyes are ready for accurate measurements. None of the tests are invasive or uncomfortable, and our ophthalmic technician will support you throughout. The dilating drops can blur vision, so please arrange a friend or family member to help you home. Based on your results, your specialist will discuss suitability, set expectations, and tailor a plan to match your lifestyle.

Multifocal treatment

We use advanced lenses to bring you perfect vision

Please arrive without eye make-up and don’t use eye drops unless we’ve advised otherwise. On arrival at My-iClinic, our nurse will explain what to expect before and after surgery and guide you into the procedure room. We’ll place numbing drops and gently dilate the pupil so you’re comfortable throughout.

Your surgeon will talk you through each step. A tiny, self-sealing opening is made and a multifocal intraocular lens is positioned securely inside the eye. Afterward, our nurse will review aftercare, show you how to use your drops, and confirm your follow-up.

Expect to be with us around two hours from arrival to heading home; most patients leave the same day.

Multifocal aftercare

Recovery after multifocal lens surgery is typically about one week. Keep activity light, use your drops as directed, and then attend your scheduled aftercare appointment with your specialist.

During this first week, our team is always available to answer questions and guide you so you heal comfortably and confidently following your procedure.

After your follow-up, most patients enjoy clear near and distance vision with much less reliance on glasses or disposable contact lenses (you may still prefer light correction for specific tasks).

Save With My-iClinic

Multifocal lens surgery can work out cheaper than years of glasses and contact lenses. Instead of paying hundreds annually for frames, lenses, solutions, tests and insurance, you make a one-time investment of around £3,750 per eye and enjoy long-term clarity without ongoing optical costs. Here’s how the numbers compare over a lifetime.

How Much You Can Save

Lifetime comparison of everyday vision costs versus one-time multifocal lens surgery.

Expense Type Average Annual Cost Lifetime Cost (65 Years) Lifetime Savings
Multifocal Lens Surgery £0 (after one-time purchase/finance) £7,500 (both eyes, once)
Contact Lenses £420 £27,300 £19,800
Spectacles £300 £19,500 £12,000
Eye Test £25 £1,625 N/A
Insurance £180 £11,700 N/A
Figures are illustrative estimates for typical UK costs over 65 years. Eye tests and insurance may still be required. Actual prices vary.

Biocompatibility

Our implantable lenses are made from biocompatible Collamer, a STAAR Surgical material that includes collagen so the lens naturally harmonises with the eye. Collamer provides built-in UV protection and its soft, flexible form makes implantation comfortable.

Dry eyes

No More Dry Eyes

Multifocal lens surgery replaces the eye’s natural lens with an implant that provides clear near and distance vision. It does not reshape the cornea, so your corneal tissue remains largely untouched.

Recovery

Multifocal lenses are made from biocompatible, medical-grade acrylic engineered to harmonise naturally with your eye. The material provides UV filtering and, being soft and flexible, allows a gentle, precise implantation.

Removability

A multifocal lens implant is designed to remain in the eye for life, delivering long-term clarity at near and distance. If circumstances change, your surgeon can consider a lens exchange, offering future flexibility—without the worry or hassle at My-iClinic.

Our Most Important Benefits For Multifocal Surgery

Thinking about multifocal lenses? It’s natural to have questions about how they can help. From clear near and distance vision to a one-time solution that lasts for life, here are the key benefits and facts that explain why many people are choosing multifocal lens surgery for long-term clarity.

Multifocal intraocular lenses replace your natural lens to deliver two focal points—near and distance—reducing dependence on glasses for everyday tasks.

Multifocals typically cover near + distance; trifocals add a dedicated intermediate focal point (e.g., computer distance) for smoother all-round vision.

Many patients manage daily life without glasses. You may still prefer light correction for specific intermediate tasks or very fine print in low light.

Suitability depends on your eye health, prescription, lifestyle needs, and expectations. Your consultation includes detailed tests to confirm the best option.

Some patients notice halos or glare in low light. These often lessen over time; your surgeon will discuss whether multifocals match your visual priorities.

Surgery takes 10–20 minutes per eye, with around two hours in clinic on the day. Treatment is typically from £3,000 per eye at My-iClinic.
