Our YAG Laser Treatment is a 60 second procedure to remove any symptoms that occur after having your cataracts removed. After having cataract surgery you may experience Posterior capsule Opacification (PCO) which is very common after cataract surgery.
If you are experiencing blurred vision, glares or haziness 1-5 years after cataract surgery, this means that you are experiencing a Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO) where a cloudy layer of scar tissue forms behind your lens implant. This is easily treated by YAG Laser Treatment in just 60 seconds and PCO will not occur again after YAG laser treatment.
PCO is nothing to worry about if you have YAG Laser Treatment to permanently correct the symptoms. If you are experiencing PCO symptoms 1-5 years after cataract surgery it means the lens implanted during your cataract surgery has become thick over time with a layer of scar tissue.
You might need YAG laser eye surgery if you are experiencing the following symptoms after your cataract surgery:
The easiest part of having your YAG Laser Treatment with us is you do not require any recovery time! Your vision will be blurred for only a few hours after the laser treatment. Most people report that within 1-2 days, their vision is back to normal.
After having our YAG laser capsulotomy treatment, you may be given anti-inflammatory drops with some aftercare instructions from our team.
We do advise no driving immediately after the YAG procedure as you may experience blurry vision which is completely normal. This takes up to a few hours to clear and most patients say they can already see the difference in their vision within 1-2 days. Once your vision is clear again you can continue all activities; driving, sports and work.
We advise a break from all screens 24 hours after your YAG laser surgery to reduce any dry eyes after the treatment. Naturally, all screens cause our eyes to strain and this can result in dry eyes.
Yes, our YAG Laser Treatment after cataract surgery is a very safe and painless procedure. YAG laser is a minimally invasive laser eye surgery which means there are fewer risks than conventional laser eye surgery methods because this laser only corrects vision
YAG Laser Treatment is a one-time procedure and you should not require any further treatment for PCO symptoms afterwards. However, if you experience other eye conditions this will be a separate treatment.
There is a small chance of retinal detachment in the future (after a period of years) especially if you are short-sighted. In most cases, this will begin as an increase in floaters associated with flashing lights. In any surgery damaging adjacent structures in the eye such as the implant (artificial lens) swelling of the retina (cystoid macular oedema), temporarily degrading your eyesight. However, the biggest risk for your eye health is not having YAG treatment for PCO as your vision will continue to deteriorate.
